The seriousness of Micah.

I adore my sweet Micah. He is so tenderhearted and loving. He respects and trusts us to boot!

Early this week, he came home from school and told me he wanted to talk with me and Daddy. We stopped what we were doing and gave him our full attention.
Micah announced "There is a girl at school who has a crush on me."
Daddy said, "How do you know she likes you?"
Micah said, "Because she acts weird around me. "
Daddy said, "Yep, she has a crush on you."

A very short time later, I asked Micah if he wanted to go with me to the Japanese farmer's market. (Oh, another blog for another day!) He said he would. Almost as soon as we got into my car, he asked me,
"What should I do if she wants me to be her boyfriend?"
I said, "Well, what do you want to do with her as your girlfriend?"
He said, "I don't know."
I asked, "Do any other kids in your school have girlfriends?"
He said, "Yes, one kid does."
I asked, "What does he do?"
He said, "They just talk."
I asked, "Is that what you want to do? Or do you want to do more like hold her hand?"
He said, "Yeah, that's all."
I said,  "Well, then that's okay with me if you are her boyfriend."
He said, "I figured you don't want me kissing."

I nearly laughed.

Then, I said, "Well, if she's the kinda girl that wants to do more than hold your hand, maybe she's not your kinda girl."
He agreed.
Then I thanked him for asking me and being honest with me.
He said, "Isn't that what your supposed to do, ask for the blessing? Like when you get married. Didn't Daddy have to ask Gramps to marry you, and you ask too?"
I told him yes,

and my heart melted.

I love my sweet, serious Micah!
